Group Directories
On the Elysium cluster every user has their own directory on /home/ and /lustre/.
Additionally, it is possible to have directories which are accessible by multiple users.
RUB-LDAP Groups
In order to create the group directory and manage user access a RUB-LDAP group is required. You can request one ore more LDAP groups to be added to the cluster or use an already existing RUB-LDAP group. The naming of the group is case sensitive. Thus, we recommend all lowercase group names. To utilize the LDAP group in the context of HPC it is vital to add “HPC” to “Dienst/Verwendung” in the application form.
Members and administrators of an LDAP group can be managed via the RUBiKS-Webinterface.
Shared Directory on Elysium
After the LDAP group was created, the HPC team needs to be notified
that a group directory with the proper LDAP group permissions needs to be established.
Please write an email to
hpc-helpdesk@ruhr-uni-bochum.de
with the LDAP group name, the desired directory name,
and whether the directory should be located on /home/, or /lustre/, or both.
Please keep in mind that /home/ is intended for software installations
and /lustre/ for larger data sets.
Permissions within the Shared Directory
The shared directory owner needs to make sure that the permissions within the directory are set such that other group members can assess the sub-directories/files. The LDAP group permissions only affect access to the shared directory, not the entire directory tree within. For advanced permissions schemes that cannot be represented via the standard UNIX permissions system please see Advanced Permissions.
Manage Directory Access
Members of the LDAP group automatically gain/loose access to every directory that has the LDAP group permissions.
Directory Quota
The group directory does not have its own quota. Instead used storage space is accounted to the user’s quota that owns the files. Users who provide lager software packages, or datasets to their groups can request additional quota if needed. Please contact hpc-helpdesk@ruhr-uni-bochum.de.
