Short biography

Born in Heilbronn, studies in sinology and the politics of Southeast Asia at Heidelberg University (M.A.) and the Ruhr University Bochum (Dr. phil.). 1995-2000 teaching and research assistant, Faculty of East Asian Studies; editor of the Bochum Yearbook for East Asian Studies. 2000-2004 coordination of the DFG (German Research Council) project "Staat, Handwerk und Gewerbe in Peking, 1700-1900", Seminar for Sinology and Korean Studies, Tübingen University; 2003-2004 Post-Doc in the project "Monetary and financial politics in China, 17th to 19th centuries", Tübingen University. 2005-2007 Post-Doc, Utrecht University, Research Group for social and economic history. 2008-2009 coordinator and researcher in the "Global Collaboratory on the History of Labour Relations, 1500-2000", International Institute of Social History, Amsterdam. In 2009, Academic Reader, Faculty of East Asian Studies, Ruhr University Bochum. Since September 2018, Chair of the Department for History of China, Ruhr University Bochum.
