Research interests

My research interests include:

  • (Power-law) random graph models, e.g.:
    • the configuration model
    • generalized random graphs
    • preferential attachment models
    • the Erdös-Rényi random graph
  • Interacting particle systems, e.g.:
    • (anti)ferromagnetic Ising/Potts models
    • rotor and other continuous spin models
    • inclusion/zero-range processes
    • monomer-dimer models
  • Properties of these models in equilibrium, e.g.:
    • thermodynamic quantities
    • phase transitions
    • critical behavior and exponents
    • limit theorems and rates of convergence
    • large deviations
  • Dynamics of these models, e.g.:
    • metastability
    • mixing times
  • Probability theory
  • Graph theory
  • Statistical mechanics

One of my main research goals is to understand what the effect of random graphs having a power-law degree distribution is on the behavior of interacting particle systems on such graphs.

Furthermore, I'm interested in:

  • Recreational mathematics
  • (Fun) mathematics for high school / elementary school students
  • Mathematics in general

Curriculum Vitae

I studied Industrial and Applied Mathematics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands. I obtained my Master of Science degree in February 2009 with a thesis on "Distances in power-law random graphs." under supervision of Remco van der Hofstad.

After this, I pursued my PhD at the TU/e. This resulted in my thesis "Spin models on random graphs." with Remco van der Hofstad as promotor and Cristian Giardinà as copromotor. I defended this thesis on March 26, 2013.

In the mean time I started in January 2013 as an "assegnista di ricerca" (Postdoc) at the Università di Bologna. In October 2015 I moved to the Ruhr-Universität Bochum where I am now a Postdoc in the Phase transitions research program of the Research Training Group 2131.
