Jörg Plassen

Short Biography

Jörg Plassen is Professor of Religions of East Asia at the Faculty of East Asian Studies and at CERES (Center for Religious Studies) at Ruhr University Bochum. His research interests include early Korean Hwaŏm and Samnon Buddhism in the East Asian context and authorship and intertextuality in Huayan/Hwaŏm/Kegon texts of the Tang Dynasty. He combines traditional philological methods with the latest methods of digital humanities, e.g. digital text mining. Further research interests include the literary and pragmatic dimensions of Buddhist commentaries as well as religious transfer processes. He is interested in the "Sinicization" of Buddhism, the interdependencies between Buddhism and Taoism / Xuanxue, and Buddhist-Confucian interactions in China and Korea.
