DAAD: Programm zur Förderung der Integration ausländischer Studierender an deutschen Hochschulen (PROFIN)
Integration through TANDEM-Learning
The primary aim of this project is to develop the tandem programme as a means to encourage contact between German and international students and to actively involve German students in the social and linguistic integration of their international counterparts. Through this programme, students from abroad should become both more culturally aware and better able to deal with communication in academic concepts.
Focus
We intend to achieve our aims by focusing specifically on the development of tandem-materials,tandem tasks and the tandem diary.
At the end of this project, a “handbook” will be produced, which, among other things:
- Describes the concept of learning in tandem
- Suggests a checklist to help with the planning and development of tandem projects
- Provides examples of tandem activities
- Recommends a checklist for the preparation of tandem activities
- Offers structured help to reflect on progress (e.g. information about the use of supplementary coaching and the use of the tandem diary).
This “handbook” will be aimed at both students and tutors wishing to use tandem learning in their institute or place of study.
Partnerships
This project is optimised by linking partners within the university: the International Office and the Department of German as a Foreign Language. The current project, together with the foundations of the proposed project “Praktika International”, forms an important part of the university’s internationalisation strategy.
