Since 1996, Klaus Neuking is member
of the Chair of Materials Science at the Ruhr University
Bochum. Since 2000 he is on a permanent position and in
2006 he was promoted to “Akademischer Oberrat”. His
research addresses the adhesion of polymer coatings on
metals and the application of shape memory alloys in
medical technology. His group comprises three graduate
students. Klaus Neuking organizes some of the larger
research programmes and supervises the facilities in the
areas of mechanical testing, X-ray diffraction and data
acquisition/analysis. He is scientific secretary of the
collaborative research centre SFB459 (shape memory
technology). He organizes personnel and finances of the
Chair of Materials Science. In addition, he teaches two
classes, one on the use of computers in materials
science and another on morphology and properties of
engineering polymers. At the Institute for Materials, he
