Knowledge Exchange - Profile

The Ruhr-Universität is a “knowledge factory” in the positive sense of the expression: here, international specialists in a large variety of subjects who constantly tackle new questions and devise new theories acquire knowledge and develop bases for new technologies. This knowledge is not intended to exist for its own sake but for the benefit of all.

For this reason, the Ruhr-Universität promotes the transfer of this knowledge to the public in many different ways. Cooperations between companies and researchers and the continuing education of practicians guarantee that research results are quickly put into practice. Comprehensive public relations serves to inform the public. And in order to arouse curiosity in young and old alike, the RUB invites all those who want to try out researching in lecture series, programmes for pupils and promotions for children.

Transfer of Research

The first transfer point between academia and industry at a German university came about with “Unikontakt“ (now the research and marketing association rubitec GmbH) at the RUB in 1975. It continues to ensure that marketable ideas are implemented and gives advice on transferring research results to business.
