Family Friendly University
Since 2006, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) has been certified as a "Family Friendly University". The certificate has been awarded to universities by Beruf und Familie gGmbH of the Hertie Foundation since 2002. The audit "Family Friendly University" is a strategic management tool, highlighting the ways in which the compatibility of work/study and family can be improved and rooted in the university policy in the long term.
RUB was certified both for its family-friendly measures already implemented - for example childcare, eLearning, mentor scheme – and for agreed future targets, for example in personnel development and in the "Dual Career" area. The RUB’s main family-oriented objectives agreed with Beruf & Familie gGmbH are, among other things:
- To provide information packages on reconciling family and work/study,
- To create a family-friendly infrastructure on campus and to support family-friendly degree organisation,
- To establish family-conscious personnel development measures,
- To establish a comprehensive sponsor and/or mentor system for (soon-to-be) parents in study and science.
