The successes and achievements of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) have been and are recognised from various sides. We are proud of our social achievements!
First of many: with the "Centre for Molecular Spectroscopy and Simulation of Solvent-directed Processes" (ZEMOS), RUB launches the first of its three new research buildings. In the interdisciplinary research field Solvation Science at the intersection of chemistry, physics and biology, RUB has leapt to the leading position worldwide.
Three in one: campus modernisation is making headway. In May 2016, three foundation stones were laid: for the replacement building GD in humanities as well as for the demolished and newly constructed "original buildings" IA and IB in engineering sciences. The construction period is to last until spring 2018 for both.
Two times two: RUB is a two-time winner, in both national and international sponsorship programmes. Prof Martina Havenith-Newen (Chemistry) and Prof Christof Paar (IT Security) are awarded an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council, amounting to 2.5 million euros each.

Two of six newly approved NRW-Fortschrittskollegs come to Bochum. The Ministry of Science and Research finances them with approx. 5 million euros over the period of four and a half years. The doctoral programmes "Schöne neue Welt: Sicherheit für Menschen im Cyberspace" ("Brave new world: Security for humans in cyberspace") and "Religiöse Pluralität und ihre Regulierung in der Region" ("Religious plurality and its regulation in the region") start in July 2016.
Dual success: RUB continues to show top performance in the second round of proposals for the "Quality Pact for Teaching". Its two outstanding teaching projects inSTUDIES (multidisciplinary and inter-faculty) and ELLI (Excellent Teaching and Learning in Engineering Sciences) will be funded until 2020 – with 15 million euros in the second round and with 21 million euros in total since 2011.
50th anniversary: more than 100,000 visitors in fabulous summer weather, excellent mood, five kilometres with 1,200 tables and a schedule as varied, as diverse and as entertaining as the university and the city themselves – BlauPause on June 6, 2015 is the highlight of the anniversary celebrations "50 years of Ruhr-Universität – 50 years of university town Bochum". The anniversary of the first newly established university in the Federal Republic of Germany and in the Ruhr Area is also celebrated with a visit by Federal President Joachim Gauck and with the first campus-spanning meeting of our alumni from all over the world. An alumnus from Indonesia had the longest trip by far, with more than 11,000 kilometres…
Two titles: the RUB men's football team wins the European Championship of the Universities in July. In the final furlong, the Bochum team defeats the Russian Kuban State University in the penalty shootout 4:2. Allgemeiner Deutsche Hochschulsportverband (adh) lists RUB as Germany's most successful university in inter-university competitions for the first time. In March 2015, adh publishes the performance ranking of the previous year.
