In 2009, Germany’s team of eight became the world rowing champions in Poznan / Poland, 2010 in Lake Karapiro/New Zealand, 2011 in Bleder See/Slovenia. Five rowers and the coxswain of Germany's eight are students at the Ruhr University. The RUB-rowers also win the Ruhr University Cup year after year, against competition from the Ruhr area.
The Bochum sports student Caroline Ruhnau (25) achieved a sensational victory at the European Championships (short course) in Istanbul in the 100 meters breaststroke. She came fourth in the 200 m breaststroke and set a new German record.
She is the world and European champion in football, is one of Germany’s most successful sportswomen and plays in the German Football League for the FCR Duisburg: Annike Krahn studies sports science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and, with her achievements, she provides for regular success stories.
