Achievements
Outstanding achievements deserve recognition. In recent years, many members of the Ruhr-Universität have been honoured for their work: students, faculty and staff. The Ruhr-Universität rejoices with them all and presents five by proxy:
Professors
Juniorprofessor Marc
Solga has been named “Professor of the Year”. Solga has made a name
for himself among his students with his practical seminars, which focus
on the acquisition of practical skills. In the competition run in 2010
by the magazine UNICUM BERUF (UNICUM Profession), a jury of
experts dubbed him Professor of the Year in the category of the Humanities,
Social Sciences, and Cultural Sciences.
Academic employees
Bochum-based
early career researcher Dr Thorsten Holz has been awarded one of the
sought-after Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prizes in 2011 for his “original
research approaches”: the Juniorprofessor at RUB’s Faculty
of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology had “achieved
great international acclaim, particularly for his work on security
threats on the net and the development of defence mechanisms”, according
to a statement by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft
– DFG).
Non-academic employees
At the 8th annual Teatralny Koufar International Student Theatre Festival,
held in Minsk in September 2011, the director of RUB’s theatre Studiobühne,
Karin Freymeyer, received the renowned first prize for “Best Direction”.
Theatre companies from 16 different countries participated in the competition
with a total of 29 stage productions. Studiobühne presented its successful
play “Blaubart – Hoffnung der Frauen” (Blue Beard – Hope of Women).
Doctoral students
For
her analysis of the ethical aspects of high-risk financial transactions,
Simone Heinemann received the “Ethics in Finance Robin Cosgrove Prize”
(third place). During her doctoral studies at the RUB Institute for
Philosophy I, the candidate developed criteria for responsible risk
management in financial markets. The jury selected her paper about
her research results from a total of more than 500 international entries.
Students
Five
students from RUB’s Faculty of Law achieved a brilliant victory in
the German final round of the “Jessup International Law Moot Court”.
Under the critical gaze of the jury, consisting of high-ranking judges
from the International Court of Justice as well as from the Federal
Constitutional Court, RUB students Blerina Jasari, Stephan Koloßa,
Robin Ramsahye, Linda Wittor, and Sebastian Wuschka emerged victorious
against teams from 15 German universities. Their victory in the national
competition, which was held in Jena in mid-February 2011, qualified
the RUB students for the international final in Washington, DC. Robin
Ramsahye enjoyed the outstanding achievement of being voted the “best
oralist” among all the participants.
