Buildings ID and IDN
The new building ID is inviting – and exemplary in many ways for all the other buildings of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) after the modernisation. The new building has a clear main entrance on I-Südstraße. Passing through it brings clarity – on the one hand, you get a view right through to the opposite side of the building. On the other hand, there are staff waiting at the reception to provide information and guidance. This is planned for all the other buildings as well. Right behind it is a cafeteria with terrace. The areas for teaching and research are clearly structured and reflect the future campus concept. For this reason, the corresponding workshop buildings IDN - like the newly built ICN buildings – are located on the edge of the campus, for example to make deliveries easier.
The domino principle in practice
The building ID is home to the faculty RUB’s disciplinary institutional units) of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (ET/IT). Its former building IC is the first of the old campus buildings to be completely renovated. The faculty ET/IT is to remain in ID permanently. After the renovation of IC, the next faculty (Mechanical Engineering) is to move from IB into the newly redeveloped building.
