RUB successfully participates in the Philipp Schwartz Initiative

The RUB successfully applied for three scholarships for researchers at risk as part of the Philipp Schwartz-Initiative.

Currently three Syrian scholars are researching at the RUB in the departments of Human Genetics, Civil Engineering and Economics.

The Philipp Schwartz Initiative was launched by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation together with the German Federal Foreign Office. It enables universities, universities of applied science, and independent research institutions to grant threatened researchers fellowships for research stays in Germany. The initiative has been made possible through generous support from the Federal Foreign Office, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Stiftung Mercator. This initiative is financed by the foreign office, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach foundation, the Fritz Thyssen foundation, the Gerda Henkel foundation, the Klaus Tschira foundation, the Robert Bosch foundation as well as the Mercator foundation.

RUB's Commitment to Hosting Researchers at Risk

RUB's institutional dedication to researchers at risk already started in the 1970s primarily in the shape of the commitment to hosting scientists from Afghanistan. With the commitment to researchers at risk the RUB particularly lives up to its guiding principle "universitas" – the unbiased, interdisciplinary interaction of researcher-teachers and learners.

Due to the university's history in hosting scholars at risk and based on its specific research profile the commitment of the RUB concentrates on researchers at risk from crisis zones, from particular developing countries and emerging nations as well as on researchers with a refugee background.

RUB's institutional commitment for researchers at risk focuses on nurturing and supporting individual research talents and giving them access to a wide array of networks both across the university and the UA Ruhr Consortium as well as internationally.
