Special achievements and volunteer activities are especially recognised by the Ruhr-Universität. There are already 120 students who receive scholarships from loans of the RUB, and the number is increasing. Individuals and companies have committed themselves to contribute, alongside the government of North Rhine Westphalia, to the education of young people.

Students at RUB should experience academic research from the first semester... they should ask their own questions, also beyond existing paths and thereby develop their own individual research spirit. Teachers and students work together on many levels on the development of the range of course offerings. Good ideas are supported by the university leadership. A great example: students of East Asian studies developed a „Jushi zemi“. The „open seminar“ enables students to self-regulated studying according to ones own questions after a Japanese model.

Those new to RUB will not remain alone: new students team up with experienced students in orientation tutorials in order to get to know campus, to exchange advise and to soon feel like a real RUB student. Technical tutorials are offered throughout the course of studies, in order to practice what has been learned and to study easier in groups, and by quickly and unbureaucratically clarifying questions with those students who only recently learned it. In addition, the RUB also provides tutorials for teachers: students support teachers as eTutors with the implementation of eLearning offers.

At RUB your course of studies is in constant motion: we are always trying to improve and we are not afraid of reforms. Since we require fresh ideas in order to provide good education we ask those who are closest to the matter: the students. They are not only asked for their opinion throughout their course of studies and and after graduation, they also have the opportunity to actively take part in the design of courses as well as in reforms. They are needed as learning experts and are invited to participate in various competitions.

Doctoral researchers can expect a Phd with extra value at Ruhr-Universität. Here they are not only coached by leading scientists, the unique RUB Research School also offers the opportunity to develop different options, to make individual decisions in regards to the course of studies and to hereby receive key qualifications which will prepare you for your future leadership positions. A special program to support the activities of Doctoral researchers has been established by the head of the university, in order make sure that all promising research ideas are fully attended to.

Young scientists at Ruhr-Universität have the opportunity to work equally and independently. Hereby they can develop their profile, implement ideas and achieve top results.
In order to create ideal conditions for this process, Ruhr-Universität has at early stage appointed W1 professorshipships – around 50 are already established and more are planned. The advancement of young academics is also further supported by different programs, such as the rectorate program for the financing of the projects of young researchers.
