| The
existing know-how in our research fields is also offered to
industry, and on this fields research projects for industry
are performed and special measuring instruments and software
are developed. Several typical examples are presented in the
following.
Accurate
gas densimeter
An accurate gas densimeter was developed and built up for
the natural gas industry (Ruhrgas AG, Germany) in the late
1980s. Using this apparatus the densities of natural gas can
be measured in a temperature range from 0 °C to 50 °C
at pressures up to 12 MPa. The total uncertainty in density
is ≤0.02%.
Portable
testing densimeter for natural gas meter runs
A
portable testing densimeter was developed and built up for
the natural gas industry (Ruhrgas AG, Germany) in the late
1990s. Using this apparatus the densities of natural gas in
natural gas meter runs can accurately be measured and in this
way the commerical gas density transducers installed in these
gas meter runs can in situ be checked. The densimeter covers
a temperature range from 0 °C to 50 °C at
pressures up to 10 MPa, and its total uncertainty is ≤0.05%
for densities ≥20 kg/m3.
Reference
densimeter for natural gases at standard conditions
A reference densimeter was developed and built up for the
certified calibration laboratory of E.ON Ruhrgas AG in Dorsten
in the years 2003/2004. Using this apparatus the densities
of natural gas and multi-component gas mixtures can be measured
at standard conditions (ts = 0 °C,
ps = 1.01325 bar) with high
accuracy. The total measurement uncertainty in density is
≤0,02% for densities from 0.7 kg/m3 to 1.3
kg/m3.
Further research projects for industry
Further
examples of industrial projects are only briefly listed in
the following:
- Experimental
investigation of the accuracy of commerical gas density
transducers for natural gas meter runs [63,
85].
- Development
of a method for the correction of the systematic errors
of gas density transducers due to the so-called gas-type
effect [85,
106].
- Accurate measurement
of the density of pure gases and natural gases for the gas
industry.
- Measurements
of the density of different ethylene samples for the petrochemical
industry.
- Feasibility
study for an alternative determination of energy flow in
natural gas pipelines.
- Software development
for the calculation of thermodynamic properties for the
power plant, automobile, natural gas, petrochemical, and
utiliy industry.
- Development
of magnetic suspension balances for special applications.
