RUB » Talentscouting

Is studying at university the right choice for me? Will I be able to study the subject of my dreams at a university? Who will support me in my endeavours?

These are some of the questions that students who are about to leave school ask themselves when thinking about the options open to them after they finish their A-levels. School-leavers whose parents find it difficult to help them when it comes to choosing the right degree course, because they never studied themselves, are now offered support by the RUB Talent Scouts. The scouts provide assistance to young people who wish to start a degree course or vocational training, and they are at hand to answer all questions that arise in the process. Short profiles of the scout Max Ammareller, Serhat Demir, Jelena Jojevic, Theodoros Markakidis, Mira Stepec and Halil Ülker as well as project coordinator Julia Baumann are available here.

The RUB Scouts cooperate with secondary schools of the Gymnasium, Gesamtschule and Berufskolleg type in Bochum and the Ennepe-Ruhrkreis. They hold regular office hours in the partner schools and are permanently in touch with their protégés. The university in Bochum and 13 other universities in North Rhine-Westphalia also employ talent scouts; their activities are funded by the federal state government.

Short interviews with RUB students and members of staff who were the first ones in their family to study at university are available here.

The scouts’ activities are coordinated by NRW-Zentrum für Talentförderung.
