There are also rules that have to be observed in student life: for example, every semester there is re-registration, together with the payment of the social insurance. Anyone who is taking a break, because they are doing an internship or a semester abroad, can take leave of absence and possibly be exempted from payment.
But the times of paper wars have been over at the RUB for a long time: most of the things regarding course organisation can now be taken care of easily at home or at a network workplace at the RUB — thanks to the RUB-eCampus.
The key to nearly all the applications is the combination of user name and personally chosen password allocated when enrolling. It opens up access to the RUB Mail account and dozens of other applications. What is also important is the chip card, which is a student pass, VRR transport pass, and payment card in AKAFÖ canteens and cafeterias at the same time. This secure method of authentication enables the RUB to offer its students many practical services. For example, they can plan their courses online with the "Administration of Study and Examination Performances” (Verwaltung von Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen“, VSPL) system and view the current status of their studies. RUBICon can be used to change addresses, view accounts, and many other things too.
