- 28.08.2008 Published: Rethinking Transnationalism - The Meso-link of organisations
During the last two decades transnationalism has become an important conceptual approach and research programme. However, the term has steadily become vague and indistinct underlining the need for conceptual précising as well as more defined empirical research. Rethinking Transnationalism does this in two ways. On one hand it presents theoretical contributions to the transnationalism approach and, on the other hand, it offers empirical studies in the field of the transnationalization of organizations. The book integrates outstanding international scholars of transnationalism and migration studies with specialists from a broad variety of disciplines that apply the transnationalism approach to different organizations such as NGOs, feminist networks, educational spaces and European Works Councils. Edited by Ludger Pries. More information available from Routledge.
- 28.08.2008 Published: Globalisation and Industrial Relations
Luitpold Rampeltshammer published his book "Globalisation and Industrial Relations". This book fills a desideratum of social science research: Based on a thorough theoretical reflection and a broad empirical analysis the differing impacts of globalization processes on the industrial relations in the pharmaceutical industry in the UK and Germany are presented and evaluated. Different dimensions of economic globalization processes are elaborated, their respective influences on industrial relations are discussed. In conclusion, different developmental paths are presented and their validity evaluated. In contrast to the dominating hypotheses of convergence and divergence of industrial relations a differentiated prognosis is proposed. More Information available from Campus.

The new research project "Diffusion and Contexts of Transnational Migrant Organizations in Europe (TRAMO)" which is funded by Volkswagen Foundation started in October 2007 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ludger Pries and Dr. Barbara Laubenthal; Zeynep Sezgin coordinates the project, Tülay Zenginguel works as researcher, and Hülya Kaya and Christina Gögelein as research assistants in the project. The research project "Diffusion and Contexts of Transnational Migrant Organizations in Europe (TRAMO)" developed an analytical framework addressing both, transnational organizations and their corresponding national and boarder spanning contexts. In particular, it seeks to identify the characteristics of border crossing migrant organisations, analyse the diffusion of transnational migrant organizations, study the context factors, which influence in the emergence of transnational migrant organizations in four selected European countries (Germany, United Kingdom, Poland and Spain), and address the consequences of transnationalization of migrants' organizations (if that is the case) on the participation and incorporation of migrants in European societies. The Study Group consists of an international and interdisciplinary team, consisting - besides the before mentioned Bochum team - Prof. Dr. Stephen Castles, Prof. Dr. Gunther Dietz, Prof. Dr. Marek Okólski und Dr. Dirk Halm, and a board of international researchers and European policy experts.
