The Cluster of Excellence RESOLV (Ruhr Explores Solvation: EXC 1069) is funded with 28 Mio. EUR by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) within the framework of the German Excellence Initiative. The project commenced on November the 1st, 2012, and the funding period will end on October the 31st, 2017. Prof. Dr. Martina Havenith-Newen is the Speaker and Coordinator of RESOLV and the Ruhr-Universität Bochum hosts the Cluster of Excellence.
Further information about RESOLV can be found in the RESOLV Flyer.
At the very heart of RESOLV lies the quest to significantly deepen the understanding of the complex interplay between solutes and solvents at the molecular level. Therefore, our goal is to launch Solvation Science as a new interdisciplinary research field, thus providing a unifying framework in which solvent processes can be investigated.

Philip Ball, the famous science writer and former editor for the magazine Nature, explains Solvation Science and its significance for various applications and introduces the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV:
We invite submissions to a special in focus issue on ions and solvation at biointerfaces in Biointerfaces, a journal owned by the American Vacuum Society and published by the American Institute of Physics Publishing. Submission deadline is 1 October 2015. Submit your review or original research articles!
