Prof. Dr. A. Lohse (RUB) European Economics & Law I

The course ist desingned to give an introduction to the economically relevant areas of European law with a speciel emphasis on entitrust law. It is divided in two parts: The first part, taught by Professor Adelheid Puttler, introdruces the institutions, sources and main concepts of European Economic Law. The second part, taugth by Professor Andrea Lohse, focuses on antitrust law in light of key elements of Articels 81 and 82 of the Rome Treaty. The course will not presuppose any knowledge of European union law, or Antitrust law.

Comparative Property Law

By studying property law rules in other cultures. students gain perspective on assumptions and limitations in our own system. Examples of the issuses to be considered in the course include a comparison of the definition of "property" in the civil and common law traditions, the protections accorded property rights under international treaties, the enforcement of limitations on "dead hand" control of private property under common and civil law systems, limitations on the private property owner's right to exclude the convergence process, including financing and title assurance and public regulation of land use including the expropriation of private property.

Comparative Employment Law

This course begins with a survey of the different approaches to employment law in the European Union and in the United States. It explores the organization of the European Union and the structure of the European Union legal system and then focuses on the development of European employment law.

Comparative Health Law

This course will explore a variety of selected topics in comparative health law. The course is located within the tradition of the discipline of micro-comparative law. It will focus on understanding how a wide variety of disparate legal systems deal with issues in health care law and is designed to demonstrate that there are very different solutions to health law dilemmas than those commonly considered in the American context.
