SFB 874 / IGSN Conference:
Sensory Processes: From Molecules To Cognition

Sensory Processes: From Molecules To Cognition

On April 12th and 13th, 2016, the International Graduate School of Neuroscience, together with Collaborative Research Centre 874, hosted the 8th annual IGSN/SFB 874 Conference. The conference, entitled "Sensory Processes – From Molecules to Cognition", focused on the research conducted on sensory systems and processes in Collaborative Research Centres throughout Germany. Twelve scientists presented their latest findings:

  • Heinz Beck, Department of Epileptology, Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research, Life and Brain Center, University of Bonn Medical Center
  • Jan Born, Institute for Medical Psychology and Behavioural Neurobiology, University Tübingen
  • Dirk Dietrich, Laboratoty of Experimental Neurophysiology, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Bonn Medical School
  • Andreas Draguhn, Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology, Heidelberg University
  • Andreas Engel, Department of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf
  • Benedikt Grothe, Ludwig-Maximilian-University München / Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, Martinsried
  • Onur Güntürkün, Department of Biopsychology, Ruhr University Bochum
  • Mark Hübener, Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, Martinsried
  • Rohini Kuner, Institute of Pharmacology, Heidelberg University
  • Siegrid Löwel, Department of Systems Neuroscience, Göttingen University
  • Denise Manahan-Vaughan, Department of Neurophysiology, Ruhr University Bochum
  • Tobias Moser, University Medical Center Göttingen / Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry

The event was hosted by seven doctoral students of the IGSN and the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of the SFB 874. Their introductions to the speakers, their biographies, and their fields of expertise were delivered very professionally. You did a great job!

Over 100 students and guests attended the conference, which was opened by Prof. Dr. Denise Manahan-Vaughan, speaker of SFB 874, and director/dean of the IGSN and Prof. Dr. Ulf Eysel, speaker of the IGSN. They extended a warm welcome to all participants and especially to the guests who had travelled to Bochum from neuroscientific SFB's in Bonn, Tübingen, Heidelberg, Hamburg, München, Martinsried, and Göttingen.

During the poster sessions, students took the opportunity to discuss their research with the visiting scientists and learn more about the work done at other SFBs on similar topics. Many of these conversations were continued with a glass of Greek wine and other Mediterranean delicacies at the invitational dinner on the evening of April 12th.

We would like extend a big thank-you to all who helped make the conference such a stimulating and inspiring event.
