Sediment- und Isotopengeologie an der Ruhr-Universität
Bochum:
Das zentrale Thema unserer Forschung ist das sedimentäre Archiv unserer
Erde vom Präkambrium bis ins Holozän. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt ist die
Geochemie von Karbonaten. Im Weiteren beschäftigt sich die
Arbeitsgruppe mit einem breiten Themenbereich, der Paläoklimatologie
(marin und kontinental), die Sedimente in kontinentalen und marinen
Becken, Sediment Petrographie, angewandte Sedimentologie (in
Zusammenarbeit mit der Erdölindustrie) und angewandte Geochemie
(Umweltgeologie) einschliesst. Ein wichtiger Forschungsschwerpunkt sind
biogene, abiogene und bio-induzierte Karbonate als Archive einer sich
dynamisch verändernden Umwelt. Beispiele dieser Forschung sind
mesozoische Schwarzschiefer oder kontinentale Archive wie Speläotheme.
Ein anderes, wichtiges Forschungsthema ist die Entwicklung und
Anwendung von neuen paläo-klimatologischen Proxies wie zum Beispiel das
Isotopensystem von Kalzium und Magnesium. Zur Zeit arbeiten wir in
Deutschland, Frankreich, Italien, Portugal und in Nordafrika.
Sediment- and isotope geology at the Ruhr-University Bochum:
The central theme of our research is Earth’s sedimentary record from the
Precambrian to the Neogene with a special focus on the geochemical
properties of carbonates. Nevertheless, the group combines a wide range
of research directions including paleo-climatology (marine and
continental) the sedimentary record of continental and marine basins,
sediment petrography, applied sedimentology (in collaboration with the
hydrocarbon industry) and applied geochemistry (environmental geology).
We also specialize on the paleo-environmental and paleo-climatic record
of biotic, abiotic and bio-induced carbonates including topics such as
Mesozoic oceanic anoxic events or continental speleothem records. An
important research issue is the development and application of new
proxies in paleo-climate research with focus on the calcium and
magnesium-isotope system. Currently, the regional spread of our
research includes Germany, France, Italy, Portugal and in North
Africa.
