Religious plurality
is a determining factor of social and cultural change – we are
re-learning that in Europe. Today, we are wit- nessing an increasingly
fast paced diversification of European soci- eties due not only to migration.
Albeit, political mechanisms and soci- ety's acceptance of religious diversity
fall short of this development. Here, religious and ethnic researchers
need to explore the ramifica- tions and implications of plurality, which
means: to explore the possi- bilities of a "culture of acceptance".
It requires an empirical docu- mentation of all religious groups, and,
in addition, scientific analysis of religious diversity. Therefore,
this website's main focus is to pro- vide information on various religious
groups, and to offer resources about plurality and the relevant scientific
debate.
Currently, at the University of Bochum, a group of researchers is conducting
a survey on the plurality of religious groups in North Rhine-Westphalia
– additional surveys to be conducted soon will include further
regions. Read more about the conceptual frame under Goals,
