Uwe Meixner

Uwe Meixner wurde 1956 geboren. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in der Theoretischen Philosophie (insbesondere im Gebiet der Logik, Metaphysik und Philosophie des Geistes) sowie in der Philosophiegeschichte. Die Orte seiner Vertretungsprofessuren, Gastdozenturen sowie Forschungsprojekte sind: Innsbruck, Mainz,
München, Münster in Westfalen, Notre Dame (USA), Osnabrück, Regensburg, Saarbrücken und Salzburg. Er ist der Verfasser von 10 Büchern und 100 Aufsätzen sowie Mitherausgeber der Zeitschriften Philosophiegeschichte und logische Analyse und Metaphysica. Hauptveröffentlichungen: Ereignis und Substanz (1997), Axiomatic Formal Ontology (1997), Theorie der Kausalität (2001), The Two Sides of Being (2004), The Theory of Ontic Modalities (2006).

Albert Newen

Albert Newen

Albert Newen is professor at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum with a
research focus on philosophy of mind and philosophy of language. He is
the leader of a scientific research group with the topic
"Self-Consciousness and Concept Formation in Humans". Further
interdisciplinary research projects are dealing with "Knowing-how and
Knowing-that" as well as "Other Minds". He is the co-founder and
co-editor of the international journal "Logical Analysis and History of
Philosophy/ Philosophiegeschichte und logische Analyse". Publications

Markus Schrenk

Markus Schrenk

Markus Schrenk studied philosophy, physics and logic at the University of Bonn.

After graduating in 2000 (M.A. in Philosophy) he moved to Oxford to work with Prof. Dorothy Edgington on his doctoral thesis ’The Metaphysics of ceteris paribus Laws’. He got his DPhil in 2006.

His dissertation, published by ontos 2007, was awarded the GAP prize for ’outstanding achievements in the field of analytical ontology and metaphysics’, given by the German Society for Analytic Philosophy (GAP).

After holding a Junior Research Fellowship and a Lectureship at Oxford University (2004-2006/7), Markus worked in Nottingham as Research Fellow within the A.H.R.C. ’Metaphysics of Science Project’ undertaken by the Universities of Birmingham, Bristol and Nottingham (2006-2009).

Since 2010, he researches at Cologne University within a DFG project on ’Causation, Laws, Dispositions and Explanations in the Sciences and in Metaphysics’.

Markus has published papers within the philosophy and history of science, metaphysics and epistemology. He is coauthor (with Albert Newen) of an introduction to the philosophy of language (WBG 2008, in German). Presently, he is working on his book Metaphysics of Science.
