PhD exams in March 2010
Josine Verhaal “Lateralized effects of learning in the avian brain: the influence of top-down modulation”
and Ling Wang “The effects of noradrenergic stimulation on the motor system in healthy subjects and stroke
patients with motor deficits” passed their PhD exams in March 2010. Congratulations!
After the successful start in 2009 on 9th and 10th of March 2010, the 2nd NovoBrain conference "Mechanisms of Cognition, Learning and Memory" took place at the Ruhr University Bochum. For more details click here.
Between 16th and 21st March 2009, students from the IGSN together with the NovoBrain fellows held an exhibition “More than grey cells” about the brain in a shopping centre in the middle of Bochum. Over 150 people of all ages took the opportunity to talk to the students and to their supervisors, in an effort to find out more about the brain and its secrets. The visitors were given guided tours through the exhibition, and took part in a painting and craftsman course about the brain. This event was a great experience to discuss scientific work with laymen. Click here for some pictures.
On the 3rd and 4th of February 2009, the NovoBrain conference "Mechanisms of Cognition, Learning and Memory" took place at the Ruhr University in Bochum. The conference, which was organized and hosted by NovoBrain students, was a great success. Click here for a report of the event as well as some pictures.
In October 2007 the Ruhr University published a special edition of its research magazine "Rubin" on EU-funded projects within the University.
One article dedicated to the NovoBrain programme, which included special mention of Areh Mikulic's project "Multimodal integration in the primate superior colliculus".

NovoBrain fellow Olga Herdzina has been selected to personally pose questions to the Dalai Lama during his special visit and lecture to NRW Graduate School students on Sepetmber 21st 2007 (see http://www.uni-muenster.de/GSC-MS/site/DL_EN.html for details of this very special event).
