How To Apply
How To Apply NovoBrain favours an Online Application (see link below for application form). The application consists of three parts:
1. Online Application
2. Completion of cover sheet after successful Online Application
3. Submission of two recommendation letters
1. Online Application
Before starting your application online we strongly recommend to prepare the following details in order to proceed with your application without disruptions. You may then just copy and paste most of the information into the online form.
- personal information (name, birthday, [e-mail-]address, etc)
- academic history (subjects, [date of] degrees, universities, scholarships, awards, additional qualifying examinations (if applicable), languages, etc)
- work experience (if applicable) (employer, position, etc)
- two names of referees (incl. [e-mail-]address, URL, etc)
- scientific interests (preference in neuroscience, name of preferred IGSN-member) Please incliude the title of at least two PhD projects that you would be interested in pursuing within the NovoBrain programme.
- thesis and research experience (if applicable) (not more than 250 words!) Please indicate the title of your Master’s or Bachelor’s
- thesis, the name of the supervisor and the period within which the project was completed. Briefly summarize the aims of the project, key results obtained and your contribution. If you have carried out research prior to your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis, or since then, please describe this briefly in a separate paragraph.
- BSc degrees from programmes that include 8 semesters of education are eligible, Bachelor degrees obtained in 6 semesters are not eligible.
- experimental skills
- publications or patents (if applicable)
- motivation for program entry (not more than 250 words!) Briefly discuss your reasons for applying to this program and for wanting to pursue advanced studies in Neuroscience
- envisaged career
- extracurricular interests
- financial statement
- research proposal (not more than 500 words!) The NovoBrain programme is strongly research oriented. Write a short research proposal about the scientific work you would like to do. Please state whether you have funds and equipment available. You are welcome to develop your own ideas. Alternatively, you may look up recent publications of relevant members of faculty as a starting point. Proceed with the Online Application
2. Completion of application cover sheet
After fully completing the online application form you will receive acknowledgement of your application by email and will be asked to download an application cover sheet (.pdf-format, 64k). Please print it out and fill in the relevant information including the registration number which you will receive by e-mail. Please send this cover sheet together with the copies of the relevant certificates and degrees to the IGSN before the application deadline. Please be advised that a translation into German or English will be required.

3. Submission of two recommendation letters
Please forward the referee report form (.doc-format, 90k or .pdf-format, 3500k) to two academic teachers of your choice (those you named in the online application) who are able to evaluate your personality, academic experience and intellectual merit. The reference letters can be enclosed to your application cover sheet, preferably in closed envelopes, or can be sent to the coordination office directly by the referees. The use of the IGSN reference report form is recommended. Proceed with the Online Application.
