The European Council after the treaty of Nice

The voting powers in the European Council after the treaty of Nice

On the Nice summit a new voting procedure for decisions of the European Council was introduced.
The countries recieved new weights for their votes in the Council::

Belgium 12 Denmark  7
Germany 29 Greece 12
Spain 27 France 29
Ireland  7 Italy 29
Luxembourg  4 Netherlands 13
Austria 10 Portugal 12
Finland  7 Sweden 10
United Kingdom 29

Out of the possible 237 votes 169 are necessary to accept a decision. A majority of the member states has to approve the decision, too, i.e. 8 out of 15 at the moment.
In case a member country demands a test, it has to be calculated whether the majority coalition of states represents at least 62% of the population of the European Union.
The resulting power indices are calculated in this table.

After the enlargement of the Union the power indices will be according to this table.
