Transregio TR12:
"Symmetries and Universality in Mesoscopic Systems"

The Sonderforschungsbereich/TR 12 "Symmetries and Universality in Mesoscopic Systems", which is sponsored by the German Science Foundation (DFG), is a joint project of physicists and mathematicians from the Universities of Bochum, Essen, Köln and the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In accordance with the rules of the DFG, an

    "Independent Junior Research Group".
can be established within the framework of an SFB. The SFB/TR 12 is now attempting to form such a group in the Department of Mathematics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

Applications for the position of the head of this group are now being accepted. Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics or Physics and should not be older than 35 years. A strong research record in Mathematical Physics is expected. This should be oriented towards mathematical methods for mesoscopic and disordered systems, random operators, random matrices and related fields.

After being selected by the board of directors of the SFB, the succesful applicant must submit a research proposal to the DFG. All final decisions concerning the head of the research group and other funding will be made by the DFG

The position of the head of an Independent Junior Research Group is limited to five years. The salary (BAT Ia) is comparable to the level of an associate professor. Funds for postdocs and doctoral students will usually be available. This also holds for short term guests and travel.
