In many cases the efficiency of statistical studies can be significantly improved by an optimal choice of experimental conditions. Typical examples include the allocation of test persons on various forms of therapy in a clinical s or determining a dose response curve of a new drug, under which the test persons are treated by different doses In the workgroup "Optimal Design of Experiments" mathematical methods are developed to determine optimal designs for these and other situations. These problems can be formulated mathematically as optimization problems for nonlinear functionals with an infinite dimensional domain. The aim of the research work consists in the characterization of solutions for such optimization problems.
