Statistical Consulting
Scientific work is often based on observations and measurements. Since this data is usually subject to random effects (for example because of measurement
The Department of Statistics offers both for university personnel as well as for interested people outside of the university qualified statistical consulting. Ideally, the consulting and cooperation begins with the planning of the experiment and continues depending on the necessity and choice of correct evaluation methods and finalizes with the correct analysis and interpretation of the test results.
Possible levels of consultation
- Simple consulting interview in the framework of the statistical consulting course
- Step-by-step guidance to an independent project planning, implementation and documentation of an empirical study in the framework of the course
- Assignment for an expert’s report.
- Jointly supervised thesis or dissertation.
- Joint research project.
Planning of the experiment
Timely advice during the planning of the trial or before collecting the data is highly recommended. Once the data has been collected, errors resulting from the experimental design can hardly be adjusted anymore. From inadequate collected data no meaningful conclusions can be drawn. A timely discussion also helps to deal with your resources economically. An effective experimental design often allows a significant reduction of collected data and meaningful results.
Interpretation of data
There are various ways to collect data and - depending on the situation - many different methods are necessary for the interpretation.
