Why study MSS?

Maren

Maren Heyn, 23, Germany
My bachelor’s degree would have enabled me to join the Materials Testing Office NRW, for example, which is what some of my fellow students did. It deals with testing methods and damage analysis – all very practical things. But in the master’s programme we look much more closely at the fundamentals, at the microstructures atom by atom – that’s one of Bochum’s specialties. We get to know about modern technologies and simulation methods. I could go on to work in research and development afterwards, in the automotive sector or steel industry, for example.
