Welcome to the Institute of Macroeconomics

The Chair of Macroeconomics focuses on issues of the aggregate economy in research and teaching. Of particular interest are short-term cyclical fluctuations and the effects of fiscal and monetary policy. The Institute's main field of research is behavioral macroeconomics. Here, the actual behavior of economic agents is analysed with the use of several empirical methods such as econometric analyses, survey studies and laboratory experiments. Based on the findings from the empirical research, new macroeconomic models can then be developed using agent-based computer simulations.
