<P>The <A HREF="http://www.ecrypt.eu.org">European Network of
Excellence (ECRYPT)</A> organizes a summer school on elliptic curve
cryptography in Bochum, Germany. The summer school will take place
immediately before the <A
HREF="http://www.cacr.math.uwaterloo.ca/conferences/2004/ecc2004/announcement.html">"8th
Workshop on Elliptic Curve Cryptography -- ECC 2004"</A>, which will
also being held in Bochum. The summer school will take place at the
Ruhr University Bochum. Bochum is situated in North-Western Germany.
</P>
<P>
The workshop is intended for young researchers and practitioners
interested in learning the background of elliptic curve
cryptography. The topics of the summer school range from the basic
ideas of discrete logarithm based cryptography and finite field
arithmetic to side-channel attacks and advanced topics such as point
counting. During the week of lectures the participants get a full tour
through most of the exciting background on elliptic curves presented
by first rank speakers. The summer school provides an excellent basis
for attending ECC 2004, which is held just after the summer school.<br><br>

<h3>Dates</h3>
The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. on <b>September 13th</b> and end at
~ 3 p.m. on <b>September 17th</b>. For the afternoon of September 15th
an excursion is planned.

details.<br> The regular fee is 450 EUR, for students and members of
<A HREF="http://www.ecrypt.eu.org">ECRYPT</A> the fee is 90 EUR.<br>

A number of stipends will be available to those unable to obtain
funding from other sources. Full time students are encouraged to apply
if such assistance is needed. Requests for support should be addressed
to the summer school organizers. Please notice that a stipend will
probably not cover all your expenses.<br> The application should
contain an application letter, the CV, and a letter of recommendation.<br>

<h3>Travel and lodging</h3>
<P>
Bochum is situated approximately 50 km from Düsseldorf Airport
(DUS), about 100 km from Cologne Airport (CGN) and about 300 km from
Frankfurt Airport (FRA). All three airports have excellent train
connections to Bochum. Participants should plan to arrive on September
12 to be able to attend the lectures on Monday morning. We have set
