Early Stage Research
Interplay of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Material Science
Doctoral studies at the exciting interface of chemistry, biochemistry and material science: this unique opportunity in Germany is offered to postgraduate researchers within this EU-funded early stage research training INTCHEM. It is hosted by Ruhr-University in Bochum and is fully integrated into the Graduate School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
INTCHEM stands for "Non-covalent interactions in chemistry and biochemistry". Doctoral candidates investigate complex phenomena in both bio- and supramolecular chemistry, which are caused by weak interactions of molecules via non-covalent bonding. These interactions govern the formation and structure of condensed phases of molecules (clusters, liquids, and crystals), adhesion of molecules on surfaces, and determine the structures of biomacromolecules, such as proteins and DNA.

|Graduate School of Chemistry and Biochemistry
As a proven Centre of Research Exellence, the Graduate School of Chemistry and Biochemistry (GSCB) was formally established in the "Year of Chemistry" in 2003. More than 200 doctoral students from all over the world investigate a broad spectrum of modern-day chemistry - from the design of molecular structures to new materials to the life sciences.
