Was does PALS mean?
PALS stands for Peer-Assisted
Learning Scheme. The word "pal" also means "friend" or "buddy".

Buddy-Programm Natural.PALS
for Students of Natural Sciences

The Buddy-Programme Natural.PALS initiates study-partnerships between new international students in Natural Sciences at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and local students at the same faculty as their peer-tutors. International students benefit from individual and subject-specific support during the introductory phase of their studies. In joint meetings with other participants, they establish first contacts to both local and international fellow students.

Eligible are international students in their first year of studies in Biology (BSc, MSc), Chemistry (MSc), Biochemistry (MSc), and Geography (BSc). For winter semester 2019/20, applications are accepted until September 15th, 2019.

Students of Biology and Chemistry can have the programme recognised for their degree course; as an alternative, they can obtain a participation certificate.

Further information and the application form are available online: internatural.blogs.rub.de

Project “Internationalization at Home”

The Buddy-Programme Natural.PALS is conducted by the project 3.1 Internationalization at Home (Section 3 International Programmes). It organises subject-specific programmes to foster contacts and interaction between local and international RUB-students in Natural Sciences.

Another programme offered by the project is the tandem language learning programme Tandem.MINT, in cooperation with project ELLI and the University Language Centre (ZFA). Further information: internatural.blogs.rub.de.
