Receptors and ion channels: The molecular basis of synaptic signalling and modulation

On April 1st and 2nd, seven doctoral students from the BoNeuroMed programme hosted the 6th international IGSN conference entitled "Receptors and ion channels: The molecular basis of synaptic signalling and modulation".

These students were also responsible for nominating the conference speakers, preparing and holding scientific introductions and accompanying the speakers throughout the two days.

Testimony to our students' enthusiasm and dilligence, was our remarkable guest list:

  • Anne Stephenson, UCL School of Pharmacy, London, UK
  • Bernd Fakler, Institute of Physiology, University Freiburg, Germany
  • Claus Pietrzik, Institute of Pathobiochemistry, University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz
  • Philippe Lory, Institute of Functional Genomics (IGF), Montpellier, France
  • Chris De Zeeuw, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam / Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
  • Jürgen Sandkühler, Center for Brain Research, Medical University of Vienna, Austria
  • Helmut Kettenmann, Max-Delbrueck-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), Berlin, Germany
  • Vidar Grundersen, Department of Anatomy, University of Oslo, Norway
  • Frank Kirchhoff, Institute of Physiology, University of Saarland, Homburg, Germany
  • Stephan Sigrist, Institute for Biology/Genetics, FU Berlin, Germany
  • Dirk Trauner, Department of Chemistry, University of Munich, Germany

We were priviledged to welcome over 100 guests and students to the lectures, all of which provided a fascinating and interesting insight into the current state of research in this area of molecular neuroscience.

Networking was also on the agenda, as our so-called "Brainstorming sessions" offered the students the opportunity to meet and swap ideas with some of the most recognized and influential people their fields.

Our thanks goes to everyone who helped to make this conference such a stimulating and interesting occasion.
