According to the framework of the Medical Research Council (MRC) the evaluation of a complex intervention is subdivided into four phases: development, feasibility, evaluation, and implementation.

With respect to the HOMEfit-concept, the development process is as follows (see also associated publications ):

Development Gr _ner Haken

  • Review of the literature
    → Situational analysis
  • Analysis of data obtained in a cohort of older primary care patients (getABI)
    → Investigation of general practitioners' counselling with regard to physical activity

Feasibility Gr _ner Haken

  • Performance of a feasibility study
    → Decision on whether to enter the evaluation phase

Evaluation Gr _ner Haken

  • Performance of a randomized controlled study
    → Examination of the effects of the programme on functional parameters, clinical endpoints and cost-effectiveness

Implementation Grauer Haken

  • Performance of an implementation study
    → Examination of the integration of the HOMEfit-concept into primary care
