EU Projects

Many Bochum-based researchers work in international joint research projects. They improve security on the Internet, develop new energy systems or conduct research on commemorative cultures.

Unrest

Many museums and memorials commemorate the wars in Europe. Nevertheless, nationalism is growing to an alarming extent. Why do people not learn from memories? How does memory work? And how could it possibly work better? This is being investigated by scientists at the Institute for Social Movements at RUB with six international partners in the EU project “Unsettling remembering and social cohesion in transnational Europe (Unrest)”, which is coordinated by Prof. Dr Stefan Berger. It is being funded with around 2.5 million euros until 2019.

Future Trust

The EU project Future Trust works on making online identification more secure. In addition, it should be easier for users to prove their identity on the Internet. Fake profiles and fraud can thus be prevented. The team of researchers is developing internationally valid identification systems that shall be easily accessible to anyone. Under the leadership of Prof. Jörg Schwenk, RUB academics in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology are working with international research institutions and companies to do this. The project is being funded with over 6 million euros by the EU until 2019.
