Mercator Research Center Ruhr (MERCUR)
The Mercator Research Center Ruhr (MERCUR), founded in March 2010 by the Stiftung Mercator and the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), supports the strategic development plans of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, the universities of Dortmund and Duisburg Essen and thus the goals of UA Ruhr. MERCUR promotes both the profiling of the individual universities and their cooperation. Thus, it strengthens science in the Ruhr area, making it more attractive for international appointments.
The four funding lines are
- Project support
- Structural support
- Personal support
- Start-up support
The Stiftung Mercator is supporting the establishment of MERCUR to the tune of 22 million euros over five years. That makes MERCUR one of the largest private science promotion projects in the Ruhr to date.
