Scheme to Reward the Recruitment of Prize Winners and Fellows of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation (“Alexander von Humboldt-Premium”)
What is the objective of the scheme?
An important indicator of the international attractiveness of a research facility is the number of prize winners and fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The Humboldt Foundation promotes internationally renowned, world class researchers who are of great importance both for the internationality and the research of a university. The Rectorate of the Ruhr-Universität has provided funds specifically to promote the successful recruitment of visiting researchers from the Humboldt Foundation with this new premium scheme. The aim of the scheme is to improve the quality and internationality of our research by working with internationally renowned researchers.*)
Who can apply?
The program is open to all host researchers of the RUB who have recruited prize winners and fellows of the Humboldt Foundation. The guest’s first stay, covering a minimum of three months, is taken into account.
How can applications be made?
- Simply download the application form “Alexander von Humboldt premium”.
- Fill out the application and
- Send your application with the subject “Application for the granting of an Alexander von Humboldt premium” to rektoratsprogramme@rub.de. Please add the letter of approval from the Humboldt Foundation as a file attachment in electronic form.
Who decides on the application?
The premium award is not competitive. All host researchers of the RUB who meet the above criteria can receive the premium. On presentation of the letter of approval from the Humboldt Foundation, an application is automatically eligible. Premiums may be granted for visiting researchers who stay at the RUB for the first time from 1.1.2010 for at least three months. The qualifying date is that of the letter of approval from the Humboldt Foundation.
What level of funding will I recieve and for how long?
For a Humboldt Foundation prize-winner, the Rectorate pays a one-off sum of 15,000 euros, for a Humboldt Foundation fellow, 7,500 euros.

*) The awarding of premiums for comparable visiting researcher schemes, for example, the German Research Foundation - DFG (Mercator visiting professorship) and the Fulbright Commission are also fundamentally possible and will be checked in individual cases.
