Overview
This degree course allows you to specialise either in economics or politics. In both areas of specialisation there is a common field. Language training forms the largest part of this common field. In addition to language acquisition, the other modules offered at the Faculty of East Asian Studies provide an introduction to the fundamentals and background of research in the field of East Asian economics and political science.

Specialisation in economics or politics
This degree course allows you to specialise either in economics or politics. Despite the different areas of specialisation, there is also a common field:
Language training forms the largest part of this common field. In addition to language acquisition, the other modules offered at the Faculty of East Asian Studies provide an introduction to the foundations and background of research in the field of East Asian economics and political science. Participation in the simulation game at the Faculty of Economics and a practical placement are strongly recommended.

Degree specialising in economics
The degree specialising in economics is closely linked to the courses offered by the Faculty of Economics. It consists of the basic economic modules, corresponding to the first two semesters of the B.Sc. in management and economics, an optional economics module which prepares students for East Asia-related studies, and the module of applied economics of East Asia. In addition, training is provided in an East Asian language, along with courses which investigate the East Asian region by applying the methods of economic science on the basis of Chinese or Japanese language business texts.
The areas within this degree specialisation are: introduction to business administration, business accounting, statistics/mathematics modules, microeconomics, macroeconomics, applied economics in East Asia.
Degree specialising in politics
As a contemporary and practically oriented research and teaching unit, the degree specialising in politics covers a balanced combination of political science theories and theory applications to the practice of politics in contemporary East Asia. The degree course consists of three areas: political science, East Asian politics and the history of East Asia.
The basic political science modules, which are compulsory for all students with this specialisation, constitute the main courses for the B.A. degree in political science at the Ruhr-Universität.
The areas within this degree specialisation are: fundamentals of political science, the political system of Germany, comparative government, international relations, applied politics of East Asia (political analysis of China/political analysis of Japan/political analysis of Korea), transnational political analysis of East Asia, history of political ideas of East Asia, history of East Asia.
Application
General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.
