Overview
The Bachelor’s degree in social sciences is the core programme of the Faculty of Social Science, which sees itself as a practice-oriented, integrative unit of social science disciplines (including sociology, political science, social psychology and anthropology, socio-economics) and aims to provide answers to the social scientific questions of our times. As a logical consequence, the B.A. degree in social sciences is an interdisciplinary, scientific education which covers the entire breadth of social science topics and disciplines.

Fundamentals and specialist areas
The Bachelor’s degree in social sciences is the core programme of the Faculty of Social Science, which sees itself as a practice-oriented integrative unit of social science disciplines (including sociology, political science, social psychology and anthropology, socio-economics) and aims to provide answers to the social scientific questions of our times. As a logical consequence, the B.A. degree in Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary, scientific education which covers the entire breadth of social science topics and disciplines.
The B.A. degree in Social Sciences consists of twenty-four modules, which are spread over a basic area, an advanced area, a practical and empirical area and a compulsory optional area. In the basic area, in addition to a general introductory social science module, students learn the central foundations of the individual social science disciplines (sociology, political science, social psychology and anthropology, social economics, statistics and methodology) which are extended in the advanced area.
Range of subjects within the faculty
The range of subjects offered includes: political system and economic policy; urban and regional development; international structures and processes; cultural change and migration; employment, internationalisation and socialisation in comparison; international relations; social anthropology; applied social economics; industrial, economic, and organisational sociology; comparative government and interaction work in personal services. Overall, knowledge and skills are taught that enable you to develop your own profile and prepare you both for corresponding professional fields of activity as well as possible further content specialisation in the Master’s degree.
Application
General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.
