Overview

The Department of Romance offers degrees in Romance philology, French, Italian, and Spanish. In addition, there are regular courses in Catalan, Portuguese and Romanian. The degree course comprises language practice, regional studies, linguistics, and literature. A longer period of study abroad is important. The academic achievements acquired there can be credited in full to the degree in Bochum.

The Department of Romance offers degrees in Romance philology, Romance philology/French, Romance philology/Italian, and Romance philology/Spanish. In addition, there are regular courses in Catalan, Portuguese, and Romanian. The Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees consist of modules from the areas of language practice, regional studies, linguistics, and literature. The Department of Romance attaches great importance to you undertaking a longer period of study abroad. The academic achievements acquired there can be credited in full to the degree in Bochum, which is guaranteed by European cooperation agreements. Agreements have been concluded with the Universities of Tours (France) and Oviedo (Spain) which enable you to acquire a double degree.

The Master of Education (teaching certificate for grammar schools and comprehensive schools) is also possible in French, Italian, and Spanish.

In the Bachelor phase, the degree provides a general basic academic education. You acquire a sound knowledge of linguistics and literature, of foreign language training and regional studies, and learn to apply this to one or more Romance languages. The degree is clearly oriented towards occupational fields and social applications. You also acquire multi-disciplinary expertise such as communication skills or argumentation and cooperation skills.

Application

General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.

This programme is restricted, application at the University online portal.
