Details

Politics, economy, society

Founded more than forty years ago, the faculty sees itself as a practice-oriented integrative unit of social science disciplines (sociology, political science, social psychology and anthropology, social economics, social science methods) which aims to give answers to the social science questions of the time. Here, the faculty’s numerous contacts to politics, the economy, as well as regional, national, and international research institutions play a central role.

In the subject politics, economy and society, an interdisciplinary approach to current issues of politics, economics, and society is taught. The course is designed so that, in combination with a second school subject, it can be followed with a teaching degree as a Master of Education for social science at grammar schools and comprehensive schools. Alongside teaching, there are employment opportunities in politics, business, and the service sector, associations and organisations, and the public sector.

Basic and advanced area

The subject politics, economy and dociety, is made up of a basic and an advanced area. The basic area constitutes a general introductory social science module as well as basic courses in the disciplines of social economics, political science, sociology, and statistics.

In the advanced area, alongside another methods module, three integrated advanced modules follow. The advanced modules “Political system and economic policy” and “Work” focus on the economic system, the acquisitive society and individual sub-areas of economic policy. The advanced module “International structures and processes” further extends the politico- scientific and socio-scientific analysis of international problems.
