Details
The Master programme consists of modules in the following areas:
- Experimental Physics
- Theoretical Physics
- Internship
In the internship module students acquire basic knowledge and an insight into the more complex interrelationships prevalent in the various fields of research of the department. Within the framework of the advanced internship and depending on whether their emphasis is experimental or theoretical, students can carry out a number of experiments of their own. - Area of specialization in Physics
For the purpose of developing an area of specialization in their studies, students are expected through their choice of elective courses to acquire more profound knowledge in one of the following special areas with an experimental or theoretical emphasis:
-astronomy / astrophysics
- biophysics
- solid-state physics
- nuclear and particle physics
- neuroinformatics
- didactics in physics
- plasma physics - Electives other than Physics
For the purpose of broadening the students’ training and qualifications the study of physics is to be complemented by the acquisition and deepening of knowledge in a chosen subject from mathematics, natural sciences, engineering or the humanities. - Electives
In this elective area students may choose, depending on their own interests, from the lectures offered by the RUB aimed at providing occupational skills or transferable qualifications. Such courses might include foreign language or IT skills; techniques in communication, presentation, or organization; knowledge of business administration or economics, etc. - Master thesis
The M.A. thesis is meant to demonstrate that the student is capable of handling an experimental or theoretical task independently within a fixed period of time and in doing so of applying scientific methods.
