Physics - MEd (2)

Overview

General requirements:
The M.Ed. prepares students of Physics for the teaching profession. They should therefore be interested in Physics and the teaching of the subject in school. Therefore pedagogical experience in the work with children and adolescents is useful.

Language requirements: English language skills are expected from all applicants of the (school) subject Physics, because scientific publications are generally published in English.
Different foreign language requirements may have to be met in the second (school) subject chosen by the student. It is strongly recommended to obtain information about the foreign language requirements of the second subject by consulting the respective programme counsellor.

Subject specific requirements:
A B.A. degree in Physics (or an equivalent or higher degree) is required for admission to the programme.

  • Start: Winter semester recommendet - enrolment for summer semster is possible but usually no courses for beginners are being offered
  • Application: Not restricted.
  • Taught in: German
  • 2-subject programme: 2. subject required. - Table of Combinations

Details

The training of future Physics teachers in the M.Ed. programme with the school subject Physics covers three main areas: specialised knowledge in the subject, the basics of didactics, and practical orientation. Students pursue studies in all of these areas, with the courses not only being interlinked within the specific area but also with courses in the other two areas. This qualifies the students to prepare, carry out, reflect upon, and evaluate Physics classes on the basis of a sound scientific education in the subject itself.

Therefore, the focus is on a particular area in physics, which offers students the possibility to acquire specialised knowledge and methods, to gain insights into current research and, in some cases, to obtain further qualifications in Physics. In addition, the programme combines the teaching of didactics with phases of practical work in schools. For this purpose school internships and seminars are organised partly also in the context of student laboratories at the RUB. In this manner, students receive a comprehensive scientific and pedagogical education, which prepares them for the requirements expected of a student teacher and for their career as a Physics teacher.
