Overview
Language requirements:
For foreign applicants:
Certificate of German language skills in the form of TestDaF (Test „Deutsch als Fremdsprache“, at least level 4x4) or DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, at least level 2) or a similar language test, e. g. DSD (Deutsches Sprachdiplom, Level C1). Further information about TestDaF...
For
all applicants: Certificate of Arabic language skills and a second Oriental language at an advanced level. In addition, the certificate of Latin (Latinum) or Classical Greek (Graecum) or Hebrew (Hebraeicum) or corresponding language skills in Latin or Classical Greek or Hebrew are required. Upon application this requirement may be waived for foreign students, if the programme counsellor's assessment has shown that the standard of the student's education is adequate.
English and French language skills are also expected, in so far as they are necessary for the understanding of specialised literature. For certain areas of specialization, Spanish or Greek language skills are recommended.
Subject specific requirements:
University degree, normally a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Islamic Studies or a related subject.

Details
The M.A. program introduces the students to the current developments of oriental research and conveys the necessary expert skills and methodological competences to take part in research discussions. The program enables students to independently impart knowledge and teach procedures of Oriental philology and Islamic Studies in oral and written form.
Examples for modules: Literary Studies (Oriental Literature), History of Arabic-and Islamic Studies, History of the Religious Teachings and Practice in Islam, History, Cultural and Social History of Islam, Linguistics.

Requirement: You need a counseling interview with the programme´s student counselor before registration. In some Master-Programmes there are more specific requirements. Please contact your student counselor.
More requirements: For admission you need a second subject.
