Overview
The degree course imparts basic knowledge of German, French, and European business law and is intended to enable students to integrate knowledge from different subject fields and apply it to complex issues. By studying two national legal systems, students also learn to recognise comparative law issues and to understand the economic and cultural conditionalities of both legal systems.
The consolidation and extension of language skills in the specialist legal field is an essential part of the course.

Interdisciplinary and international
A particular hallmark of the Law Faculty of the Ruhr-Universität is its interdisciplinary and international aspects:
- Family, property, proceedings
- Employment and social issues
- Companies and competition
- International and European economy
- Economic management, environment and infrastructure
- Taxation and finance
- Criminal defence, criminal trial law, and criminology
In addition, there is a comprehensive range of courses in the basic subjects. For the practical orientation of the degree course, key skills are taught, such as trial management, public speaking, dispute settlement, negotiation, mediation, examination techniques, and communication skills.
Foreign languages and international experience
The acquisition of foreign language skills is made possible by legally oriented language courses and foreign language legal courses. The internationalism is guaranteed, among other things, by the Centre for International Affairs. Students receive active support in all important matters when undertaking studies abroad. But also incoming students receive a warm welcome and plenty of advice.
The Bachelor’s degree national and European economic law conveys basic knowledge of German, French, and European business law and is intended to enable students to integrate knowledge from different subject fields and apply it to complex issues. By studying two national legal systems, students also learn to recognise comparative law issues and to understand the economic and cultural conditionalities of both legal systems. The consolidation and extension of language skills in the specialist legal field is an essential part of the course. In the third year of study the degree prescribes a mandatory period abroad at the partner university in Tours.
Compulsory subjects within the degree course are:
German civil law and public law, French civil law and public law, European law, comparative law, methodology, foundations of law, French, English (language and specialist language courses).
Application
General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.
