Overview
The Bochum faculty is characterised by the great diversity of its work areas. These include analysis, algebra, geometry, topology, numerical mathematics, stochastics, computer science, cryptography, mathematical physics, and the didactics of mathematics. The many international contacts enable students to undertake periods of study abroad in exchange programmes.

Details
Great variety from analysis to cryptography
Mathematics is a core technology of our society and provides a reservoir of models for the natural sciences, engineering, and economics. The Bochum faculty is characterised by the great diversity of ist work areas, which include the following: analysis, algebra, geometry, topology, numerical mathematics, stochastics, computer science, cryptography, mathematical physics, and the didactics of mathematics. The scientists of the faculty are involved in numerous research areas, in a graduate school, and two collaborative research centres. The many international contacts enable students to undertake periods of study abroad in exchange programmes. The faculty also has a mentor programme: the first-year students are assigned a mentor from among the lecturers and academic staff. At regular meetings, they discuss problems and development opportunities in the degree.
In the B.Sc. Degree course, we offer the following modules: analysis, linear algebra and geometry, introduction to programming, applied mathematics, elementary number theory, introduction to probability theory and mathematical statistics, introduction to numerics, introduction to computer science, introduction to cryptology.
Application
General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.
