Great variety from analysis to cryptography

Mathematics is a core technology of our society and provides a reservoir of models for the natural sciences, engineering, and economics. The Bochum faculty is characterised by the great diversity of its work areas, which include the following: analysis, algebra, geometry, topology, numerical mathematics, stochastics, computer science, cryptography, mathematical physics, and the didactics of mathematics. The scientists of the faculty are involved in numerous research areas, in a graduate school, and two collaborative research centres. The many international contacts enable students to undertake periods of study abroad in exchange programmes. The faculty also has a mentor programme: the first-year students are assigned a mentor from among the lecturers and academic staff. At regular meetings, they discuss problems and development opportunities in the degree.

The two-subject degree prepares you, among other things, for the Master of Education. Here, we offer the following modules: analysis, linear algebra and analytic geometry, introduction to probability theory and statistics, intermediate lecture in analysis, intermediate lecture in algebra/geometry.

Application

General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.
